* Apri's Gold Medal win in 14-15 Black Belt Elite Open sparring qualified her to fight the winner of the 16-17 Black Belt Elite Open sparring to determine who would advance to Saturday's 14-17 Black Belt World Class sparring, but she had to bow out due to a torn muscle in her leg

Today's competitors added 7 more medals to our total:  4 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze.  Kyle Teshiba was first up in his forms division and his 22.9 score held 1st place against the 7 other competitors in his division, giving us our first Gold medal of the day.  Apri Bondurant also came up first in her forms division of 12 competitors and her 24.8 score held 1st place throughout most of the division until a score of 25.0 bumped her down to 2nd place and our first Silver medal of the day.  Royal Donigan, who advanced to World Class sparring today after winning Gold in Elite Open sparring yesterday, unfortunately, was matched up first with his best friend and fellow teammate Harry Williams.  The score was tied during most of the match, but Royal eventually won.  Although neither one won a medal in that sparring division, Harry's quick change from personal disappointment in losing the match to cheering on his friend in the next match, showed the true meaning of team spirit.  Apri's  5-1 win over her competitor from Colorado, followed by her 9-2 win over her competitor from Alaska, led her to the final match of 14-15 year old Black Belt Elite Open Sparring.  The winner of that match would fight the winner of the 16-17 year old Black Belt Elite Open Sparring to determine who would advance to 14-17 year old Black Belt World Class sparring on Saturday.  Although Apri won the match, she suffered a torn muscle in her leg and had to bow out of the match with against the 16-17 year old winner.
